Our Story

Maru means a circle, round, complete in Japanese, and we would like to refer it to “our own small world”. We believe Maru creates the causal, relax atmosphere – Gezellig for families and friends to drink, eat and enjoy nice food.

We are rooted in tradition, while we are offering an exhilarating contemporary food experience.

Owner, Chef, Tony Lau has more than 35 years’ experience in Japanese Kitchen. Born and raised in Singapore, studied mechanical drafting and started his cooking journey in Nagumo, Peninsula Hotel in Singapore. He moved to Europe in 1987, first in Belgium and 3 years later, he came to the Netherlands.

Our dishes are designed for sharing amongst good company and can be paired with our drinks: sake, cocktails, and a full range of wine selection
